Zhang Zhixin was imprisoned for her opposition to the Cultural
Revolution and eventually executed. Song was sympathetic to her resistance
to Cultural Revolution policies and created this series of woodcuts to
tell her story, risking his own life. This series has never been shown
publicly. |
