Modernization and improvement under the leadership of the
Communist Party is a constant theme in the art of this period. The
portrayal of construction in Yan’an in 1977 highlights this. The
block of apartments being built is typical of new construction during
this period, and obviously different from the traditional cave dwellings
common in northern Shaanxi. However, the iconic pagoda in the background
establishes the link with Yan’an’s historic past as the
cradle of the communist revolution. |
